Stock Investing

I have enjoyed Stock & Options investing and trading for years. The interesting thing is the more that I looked around for a local mentor when I started the more I realized there are very few. There are few individual investors who take the time to get well educated and very few investment reps that I would be confident would perform better than the overall market. For the most part they are mouthpieces for their company’s research and analysis department who spend countless hours trying to find stocks poised to beat the market. The problem is that after expenses, management fees, etc. over 80% of these funds touted by local investment reps perform worse than an entire market index fund over a 10 year period.

As far as short term trading, I am not a big proponent for most investors, the time spent monitoring charts, formations, volume, etc. can be time better spent in other more important areas such as with your family, hobbies, etc. There are few successful traders out there yet countless newsletters, systems, etc. that promise unrealistic yields. I have traded stocks and options for quite some time and have to tell you that my long term buy and hold accounts have done better in the long run.

As in real estate investing, there are few get rich quick success stories in the stock and bond market and success is an exercise in diligent and consistent long term investment practices.

I encourage you to review the resources in this section and develop a strategy and a portfolio of long term, low cost mutual and index funds that have strong management and strong earnings records. There is little reason to be paying commissions for products that you can obtain yourself with no added expenses and this is one of the true keys to successful investing-keeping expenses low.
